Level 06: Quest = Assignments

Mikhail wore his school uniform and he took his long plastic pipe. With the long plastic pipe in hand, he reenacted Eisen's attacks, sans the Roaring Comet.
"Hatsya's an irresistible victim. I wonder if his player is that frail..." Mikhail thought, as he brandish his pipe in the air.
After playing with his pipe, Mikhail went down for breakfast.

In the school, Hatsumi sat beside Henry, and she gossiped, while the bespectacled friend of hers continued writing on his yellow notebook,
"Henry, you are good last night”
“Eh? I won’t even call that fine, for we got knocked out together, Hatsumi” Henry denied.
“No, you’re really good, Hats!” Hatsumi praised.
“Eisen’s better than me” Henry denied again.
“Hatsya, you’re best for me. I even personally dislike Eisen’s cocky attitude!” Hatsumi reinforced her beloved buddy, and followed by a comforting frontal embrace.
Romeo sat beside Henry, and joined their gossip,
“Hatsya, how’s your online date last night?” Romeo asked.
“Ummm... it was fun, with zombies, and other people running away too. After all, we started an unintended trend in Kanpeki” Henry answered.
“Though some didn’t find it funny, hence someone asked us to be warped elsewhere” Hatsumi added.
Henry exclaimed, “Then we’ve met Eisen, that arrogant lanc--”
Speaking of the devil, Mikhail, Eisen’s player, sat behind Henry. The owner of the lancer has black brushed-up hairstyle, and boasted a complexion of flat white coffee. Mikhail broke into their conversation,
“That arrogant lancer you say?”
Henry, Romeo, and Hatsumi stared at the owner of the aforementioned avatar, and startled altogether,
“Y-you are Eisen the lancer, Mikhail?”
Mikhail stood up, high and mighty, and he affirmed,
“Yea. I am Eisen!”
Hatsumi scratched her head and thought to herself,
“Even in real life, Eisen’s here. High and mighty as always”
Mikhail grabbed his English notebook and abruptly asked Henry,
“May I copy your English assignment, Hatsya?”
Henry squinted and felt awkward by being called by his second name, though he handed his notebook to Mikhail.
“Next time, don’t call me by that name, unless we’re playing” Henry told Mikhail.
Mikhail started reading Henry’s assignment, and asked the trio for help regarding their assignment. While four of them are busy on their assignments, two of Mikhail’s friends came to the room as well. Rick Laburis is a bespectacled classmate with a green bossun hat; and Cody Passpied, the svelte gentleman. Rick took his English notebook, and checked out his assignment. All of a sudden, he cussed,
“Oh kack, I’m one example short! Gotta ask Mick!”
Cody also checked out his English assignment, and he got the worst. He only gave out one example in his assignment,
“Dammit! So much for me watching DragoNidus anime series, I must hurry!”
Cody and Rick went towards Henry’s group, then asked for examples for their English assignment. Mikhail is surprised,
“You guys don’t have assignments too?”
Cody and Rick nodded simultaneously, then they asked Hatsumi and Romeo let them copy their assignments.
First period: English and the lesson is all about collective nouns. Mrs. Rubio, the calm middle-aged teacher, briefed the students,
“Today, we’ll be discussing about collective nouns. Though to make things interesting, I’ll be calling students in any order”
Their English teacher went to her designated desk, opened her class record, and randomly called Romeo,
“Romeo Abacay, leave your notebook on my desk, and define what is a collective noun”
Romeo stood up confidently, and answered vis-a-vis, straight from their favorite online encyclopedia,
“It is a name of a number or collection of people or things taken together and spoken of as one whole”
“Well said, Mr. Abacay!” Mrs. Rubio praised, and then Romeo sat down.
Mrs. Rubio called Arwin Banaag, then the chosen student placed his notebook on her desk, and he was told,
“Arwin Banaag, give me an example of a collective noun for animals”
“A flight of doves”
“Okay Mr. Banaag, take a seat” Mrs. Rubio lauded, then Arwin sat down afterwards.
The English teacher called Henry to leave his notebook to her desk. Mrs. Rubio instructed,
“Mr. Kanlaon, give me another collective noun for animals”
“A huddle of penguins” Henry answered.
The English class went on, that many stated more collective nouns. Meanwhile in Ren’s school...

Five minutes until the end of the Algebra class, Mr. Mandigma, the handsome, tanned algebra teacher, wrote a 15-item assignment on the board, which is about evaluation of algebraic expressions. Ren briefly glanced at the window while noting the questions in his notebook. Then Ren contemplated while writing,
“I wish we all get home early, I still have loaves of bread to sell this afternoon, and then get my character to reach level 10!”
Roy suddenly suggested,
"Ren, why don't we do the assignments right after this?"
"That's a good idea, Roy and then we grind" Ren approved.
The two started answering the given algebra assignment at the back of their notebooks. The rest of their classmates idly gossiped to each other, procrastinating their homeworks.

Recess time, Mikhail approached Henry and suspected him,
"So, you are Hatsya in the game eh?"
Henry nodded, that he simply lent his yellow notebook to Mikhail. The lancer's player smirked at the fencer's owner and began talking about the notebook's contents,
"Hats, seems that we'll be dealing with tank bears on the next patch, eh?"
"Yep, giant bears with tank armor and mind-controlled cannons. In fact, if you have enough materials out of Ursapanzers, you'll be able to make wearable armor from it"
“T-that’s just very ridiculous, Hats. Did you think of that?” Mikhail is surprised.
“No, not me... I only write stories about some of the assets sent here”
“H-Hats, do you know the level cap so far? Anything new after the level cap update?”
“I heard it’ll be level 50, and whoever reaches that level, all I could tell is... They can fulfill their wishes” Henry softly unveiled the fate of their game.
“Fulfill wishes?” Mikhail gained interest.
“Yes. We’ll come up with a demo sometime about it”
Abruptly, Hatsumi and their friends sat on their table, and she asked,
“What are you guys talking about?”
“Nah, just random brainstorming for my own fic, Hatsumi” Eisen covered up.
“Oh, I hope she doesn’t find us having the same examples, or else... We, the NOAH kids will lose grades!” Hatsumi worried.
In the interim, recess time in Ren’s school...

Ren and Roy were in the canteen, eating potato chips while answering their algebra homework. Roy started chatting,
“Ren, what’s your dad’s job?”
“Ummm... He is a linesman in Melbourne, Roy. Though he could’ve gotten a job in Melco, but he turned it down” Ren regretfully replied.
“Y’know, if he only worked in Melco, you’ll be together in one home, and not living in a tenement” Roy wishfully expressed.
“His friends in college discouraged working under Melco. Instead, he told us to sell our bungalow in Rembo for his plane ticket to Australia to fully use his knowledge in electrical engineering” Ren confessed.
While they conversed, they came across a difficult algebraic expression to be simplified in their homework. The two ceased talking about their overseas-working parents, and instead helped each other in solving the encountered question.
The school bells tolled...

Ten minutes before the Music elective, many of the students chattered anything under the sun, while Romeo brought out his guitar in preparation to his guitar class. Henry and Hatsumi started singing an original composition together. Henry sang the first verse of the original song,
Love, I am your crying shoulder, your dying soldier
Warding you from monsters, easing your blunders
Took arrows in my knees, defying my disease
Because I care for you, loving you so true
Then the two finally sang the chorus,
My hope will never wane, as long as there’s no bane
Standing in our way, that will cut us astray
I’ve been holding my dear life through the looming death
That my beloved will redeem me on my last breath
Hatsumi joined in the second verse,
Love, I am your worrying damsel, weeping in your battle
Longing for your return, holding my lantern
Can’t afford not to wail, distressed as a gale
Because I care for you, loving you so true
The two tried to sing the chorus until their homeroom adviser told the whole class to go to their respective music elective classes.
Meanwhile in Ren’s class...

While heading to their classroom, Roy told Ren about his working mother,
“My mom is now an elderly home nurse in New York, Ren. She may be earning hefty sums of money, but I am worried about her there”
“Why? Does she have any means of reaching you guys here?”
“She doesn’t write much letters, and now we don’t have any idea what’s going on”
“I bet she’s too busy taking care of the patients there, Roy... Give her time”
Abruptly, the second bell rang, prompting the students to hurry back to the classrooms for the next period.
Second period: integrated science, introduction to scientific method. Mr. Mandigma took over the science class due to the assigned teacher’s unexpected absence, and he began teaching the scientific method to them. As usual, students, even Ren, began exchanging ideas to full discuss the scientific method.

In the voice class, it is Henry and Hatsumi’s turn to perform their original composition. The two came in front of the class. Henry knelt down with one knee, pretending he got wounded in a fight, and he began to sing,

Hatsumi stood beside him and they both sang the chorus,

The whole voice class swooned at their performance, that some of their classmates at the back screamed,
“Make that into a play please!”
“Bravo!” yelled by another classmate.
Henry moved to one corner of the classroom, and Hatsumi kneeled in front of the class, and sang the second verse,

Because I care for you, loving you so true
Henry stood beside Hatsumi this time, and they sang the chorus for the second time. While singing the chorus, Henry helped Hatsumi to get up. Again, the class wooed at their performance, that some even wittily cheered them as a school love team. After their performance, the whole class applauded at them, that their voice teacher reminded the whole class.
“Class, your final project on the fourth quarter will be similar to their unexpected performance! Other music classes will join this final project as well, and that means, each group will form a music video out of their composed songs, and applying all of the lessons into one grand performance!”
The whole class wildly cheered to the teacher’s announcement, then the voice instructor ended the class with an assignment,
“Class, you have to find schoolmates willing for your group. Submit the list to me next week, okay?”
Everyone in class affirmed to her instruction, and they all excitedly went back to their respective classrooms.
While heading upstairs, Henry and Hatsumi talked about their music project,
“Hey, do you have anyone in mind to play the tunes?”
“Yup, and Romeo’s already the first one”
Behind the two, Cody suddenly grabbed the two and teased,
“Ahahaha! You guys are gonna be the school’s Romeo and Juliet 2.0, huh?”
Hatsumi and Henry glanced at Cody for a moment. Hatsumi denied, even though her face went red treacherously,
“N-nope! D-doesn’t happen t-that way, Cody!”
Cody laughed at their blushing faces, in spite of their resistant actions, then he cajoled,
“Yeah really guys, both of you are good for each other!”
Unexpectedly, Henry’s phone vibrated, and notified him about a new text message. Henry immediately picked up his phone and read it,
Henry, bring your friends to our house. We’ll have to talk something urgent

Henry immediately approached Romeo and Hatsumi first,
“Hey, are you guys free tonight?”
“Why, Henry?” Romeo asked back.
“My dad wants to see you guys at home” Henry answered.
Hatsumi inquired,
“What for?” and she joined, “If that’s about us being together often, it’s fine... because we’re pals, Hats!” then she patted Henry’s back.
Romeo was thrilled seeing Hatsumi and Henry’s relationship rollercoaster ride as friends. Behind Romeo, three of their classmates applauded at them,
“They’re going steady, Romeo!”
One of the three even sang a verse,
“Henry and Hatsumi sitting on a cherry tree, H-U-G-G-I-N-G!”
Back to their classroom, three of their schoolmates began drawing super-deformed versions of them on the board hugging inside a heart. Mikhail and Rick hopped onto the teasing bandwagon too by singing along with the three schoolmates.
Hours after their classes...

Roy received a text message from Hatsumi,
I’ll be at Henry’s house. We’ll play NOAH later, Roy. Be sure to invite Ren too, okay?
Roy replied to Hatsumi via text,
Good luck and take care. Hope we’ll party again.
Ren asked Roy about the text,
“Who just texted?”
“It’s Hatsumi. She’ll be in Henry’s house for a while. Still, she’ll be playing tonight” Roy answered.
“Oh Roy, I think I should be heading to the bakery for now. If you want, you’ll be my first customer for this day”
“Really?”
Ren nodded, and he led Roy to Manang Abe’s bakery...

Manang Abe and Butchoy welcomed Ren and Roy to their humble bakery. Manang Abe simply offered the two,
“Ren, which of these breads do you like?”
The baker pointed out the spanish bread, sugar doughnuts, hopia cubes, and hat-shaped muffins referred as Kabayans. Ren ordered afterwards,
“We’ll take 6 pieces of hopia cubes, ma’m, and two small citrus sodas in plastic”
Manang Abe went to their store freezer and served them citrus sodas in small clear plastic bags with straws, while Butchoy picked six hopia cubes and handed them over to Ren in a brown paper bag. Butchoy asked Ren,
“Ren, how’s NOAH last night?”
“I heard that they added new maps, as in a new safe zone, a new mountain map, and I think a first forest dungeon”
“New safe zone?”
“You heard it right, Butchoy. From what I’ve read last night, that town had a crazy free-running event started by Hatsumi--”
“As in the cosplayer?”
“Yeah, with Hatsya. They raced from the top of one of the safe zone’s towers, and disturbed the rest of the players. As a result, the game management decided to put zombies and make people running away”
“Oooh... sounds interesting but kinda annoyingly disturbing if you ask me, Ren”
Manang Abe cut their chatter,
“Butchoy, you better cook rice now. Your dad’s going back from work!”
Then the stubby baker handed out the sodas to the two. Ren and Roy ate the hopia in the store.
